Understanding Solar PV
How does Solar PV work?
At Intrinsic Eco Energy Ltd, we specialize in Solar PV systems that transform sunlight into clean, renewable electrical energy using advanced solar panel technology.
Solar panels consist of specialized solar cells made from thin layers of semiconductor material, typically silicon, enclosed between protective layers of glass. These cells efficiently convert sunlight into direct current (DC) electricity.
Since homes require alternating current (AC) to power appliances, the DC electricity is passed through an inverter, which converts it into 240V AC power. This power can then be used to operate household appliances such as washing machines and televisions when the solar panels are actively generating electricity.
If more electricity is generated than is needed, the surplus is fed back into the electricity grid. Through “Smart Export Guarantee” (SEG) tariffs, energy suppliers compensate homeowners for this extra energy, with payment rates varying by supplier.
For those who prefer to store surplus energy, additional devices are available. Excess energy can be stored as hot water in a hot water cylinder or as electricity in a domestic battery, ensuring energy availability even when solar generation is low.
Choose Intrinsic Eco Energy Ltd to help you harness the power of the sun and maximize your energy efficiency.

Solar PV ratings- what are they?
Solar PV systems are assessed based on their kilowatts peak (kWp) rating, which represents the maximum electricity generation capacity of the panel array under ideal conditions. These ideal conditions typically include a sunny day at noon with panels facing south.
The actual electricity generated by solar panels is measured in kilowatt-hours (kWh)—the same unit used in household electricity bills. However, it’s important to understand that a 1 kWp panel array rarely produces a continuous power output of 1 kW. Instead, the output is typically lower and influenced by factors such as panel size, type, and quantity. A typical kWp rating for a solar array is around 3-4 kWp.
The total electricity production over a year depends on several variables, including the system’s location, the orientation of the panels, shading, local sunlight conditions, and the system’s kWp rating. On average, you can expect to generate between 700 and 900 kWh per installed kWp annually. However, this output varies significantly across seasons.
While the average household consumes approximately 3,000 kWh per year, not all of this will be replaced by solar electricity unless conscious efforts are made to maximize its use. With proper planning and expert guidance from Intrinsic Eco Energy Ltd, you can optimize your system’s efficiency to get the most from your renewable energy investment.
